DIY Nail Glue: How to Make Your Own at Home

Getting your nails done at the salon has turned out to be on the expensive side, so you decide to do your nails at home.

Then a great tragedy happens – your nail glue runs out or gets dried up in the container. Instead of going to the store to get a new one, you can save that money and the walk by making one yourself.

It is inexpensive, quick, and super easy to make.

Materials Needed to Make Nail Glue at Home

All you need are some basic supplies you can easily find around your house.

  • A small container or an old bowl
  • A cotton swab
  • Clear nail polish
  • PVA glue
  • Scissors

Steps for Making Homemade Nail Glue

Follow these simple steps to make your emergency nail glue.

1. Cut One End of the Cotton Swab

Take the cotton swab and a sharp pair of scissors. Cut one end of the cotton swab just where the cotton is attached. Discard that one and keep the rest of the stick.

You will need that stick to stir the glue when making it.

2. Pour PVA Glue into A Bowl

Measure one cup of the PVA glue and pour it into an old bowl or a small container. Scrape the sides of the measuring cup to make sure you get everything.

You can use either white or clear PVA glue.

3. Add Clear Nail Polish

Add about half a bottle of clear nail polish to the glue in the bowl. You can use a measuring spoon if you’d prefer. Measure one spoon of the clear polish into the glue.

The clear nail polish will help the glue stick to your nails more smoothly and firmly.

4. Mix the Ingredients

Remember that cotton swab you cut into a “stick” earlier? You’ll need it now. Take it by the end that still has cotton attached to it and mix the PVA glue and clear nail polish thoroughly.

You may need to scrape the sides of the bowl to ensure you mix all the ingredients properly.

5. Store the Glue

If after you’re done with your nails, you happen to have some leftover glue, don’t throw it away. You can still use it some other time.

Take a clean and empty nail polish bottle and pour the homemade nail glue inside. Close it tightly so the air doesn’t seep in and ruin the whole thing.

How to Use the Homemade Nail Glue

Using it on Artificial Nails

Still using the cut end of the cotton swab you used earlier, take some of the glue and spread it out on your natural nail.

Start from your cuticle and work your way to the free edge, then press the false nail down firmly for at least one minute so that the glue can set well.

Try not to move your hand when pressing the glue down so that the nail will not slide out of place. The glue would have hardened properly after ten minutes.

Using it on Natural Nails

This homemade nail glue can still be used to repair splits and tears on your natural nails.

What you should do, is stick the cotton swab into the glue by the empty end and apply a little to the part you want to hold together.

It is easy to make nail glue at home and even if you don’t need it, it’s still a fun activity to try out. I hope this works for you and I’ll see you in another article.
